In the April General Conference of 1995, Elder Robert K. Dellenbach of the Seventy spoke about the translation of the Book of Mormon by the Prophet Joseph Smith. The Book of Mormon is being printed in over eighty languages, with experienced bi-lingual and multi-lingual members of the Church called to translate the book from English. They use computers, lexicons, and encyclopedias to assist them. Despite modern technology, the task of translation takes years. Joseph Smith, a farmer in his early twenties with no background in ancient history or languages, translated the Book of Mormon from reformed Egyptian to English in 63 working days. The Book of Mormon, the “keystone of our religion,” remains a miraculous work for the world to examine. (Read the Article).
At the General Young Women Meeting held in 2005, Young Women General President Susan W. Tanner spoke about the unique relationship between the young prophet Joseph Smithand his angelic tutor, Moroni. On the night of September 21, 1823, Joseph knelt in prayer for guidance. In answer, he was visited by Moroni, the last prophet/record keeper of the Book of Mormon. Moroni taught Joseph through repetition and example, during a number of visitations over the next few years. The knowledge he gleaned, he then shared with his eager family, thus strengthening his home and family.
